Iran is a land where the formation of its civilization is tied to a deep understanding of water limitations and the necessity of adapting to arid and semi-arid climates. Historical experiences of water management in this land show that sustainability and protection of water resources have always been the result of a balance between exploitation and conservation. However, in recent decades, increasing climate pressures, growing demand, developing economic activities, and more complex inter-sectoral relationships have presented water governance with challenges that require approaches beyond traditional decision-making tools. In such a context, artificial intelligence, as one of the outstanding achievements of the data age, has provided a new opportunity to improve the quality of water governance.
